All students will prove their competencies in job seeking skills including cover letters, applications, and the interviewing process. This semester also includes content for competencies related to the Idaho Standards Achievement Testing requirements. Marketing 1 (2nd Semester): The primary focus for this semester is the utilization of promotion in marketing. Students will learn and apply the promotional mix and focus specifically on advertising and personal selling as promotional tools. All students will participate in the DECA Takeover which provides students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned in class to the workplace. This allows the students to learn from area employers in a "real world" setting. Marketing 2 (Full Year): Second year students will learn about the "behind the scenes" aspects of a business. Studies include buying, pricing, displays, store layouts, visual merchandising, risk management, introduction to management, scheduling, stock and inventory activities. Studies will also include international business, trade, and marketing. In addition, second semester students will participate in a community business simulation where students operate their own businesses. All second semester students will participate in DECA Takeover and will be expected to seek upper level positions with employers. Marketing 3 (Full Year): Senior marketing is specifically designed for the advanced marketing student and utilizes their knowledge gained in previous years through an application setting. Students will be expected to complete marketing research and complete DECA projects as part of their studies. Advanced students will design and organize events, promotions, and activities both for DECA and interactions within the business community. Third year students will work with area employers to help organize the DECA Takeover program and should seek the top management positions available. Marketing Experience (Marketing X): This program is available to any marketing student. Students will earn an elective credit (pass/fail) for working a minimum of ten hours per week with an area employer. The students performance will be monitored and mentored by the supervisor/manager and the program organizer, Rick Young. Students will be required to provide work records as part of their experience. DECA Store (Marketing Lab): The LHS DECA Chapter operates a morning store that sells products such as beverages, Otis cookies, and snacks. The students operate the business for a credit and the profits help students attend conferences. |
