The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937.
This bridge is 8,981 feet or 1 mile 3,701 feet.
It was built to allow people to drive across the bay.

The bridge starts in San Francisco, California, and ends up in Sausalito, California.
Joseph B. Strauss was the engineer.
Strauss received $1 million for pay and effort.
He also received a lifetime pass to go across the bridge.

The final cost was $2.7 million.
The USA set aside $1.4 million. The project went $1.3 million over budget.
It's called the "Most Spectacular Bridge in the World"
They built it to stand through brutal winds, and tides.

It sits less than 8 miles away from the San Andreas faultline causing some of the worst earthquakes in history.
More than 1 million cars have passed since the opening in 1937.
The length of the steel wires used in the bridge is enough to circle Earth three times.
